Layout
The next thing that you will
need to take care of would be the layout of the scrapbook. You will have to decide whether you want to follow a
planned layout or create one randomly.
It could be a particular shape depending on the end motive, e.g. If it’s a wedding
gift, it could be in the shape of a wedding cake. You could spread out the entire matter per page or else lay it
out in the centre of the page and decorate the borders or corners as per your desire. Please remember the lay out
should correlate with the theme of the scrapbook.
Now that you have decided on the layout of the scrapbook you have to think about how
you are going to space the both the written and printed matter in the book. If you are not careful and
conscientious about this it could look too garish and unattractive.
While you space out the material care should be taken that the trimmings are not so
prominent that they distract from main theme of the project. If the page seems too crowded, you can always reduce
the trimmings, and if it seems too bare, more trimmings can be added.
The layout has been planned, spacing has been finalized it is time to sticking
the various photographs and trimmings to place. Care should be taken that this part of the job is done with great
care, one wrong move it sure will be an irreversible disaster.
Using glue to stick pictures could be dangerous, as it tends to run all over the
place, it is safer to use glue dots, glue pens two-sided tapes. There is a chance that even though you take immense
care something may spill and cause some stains. Here are some tips to prevent major problems.
Soft white erasers can be used to wipe off some glue stains, errors from the
scrapbook page. If the mark is prominent, you could decorate it or camouflage it with some sticker or trimmings. In
case you notice some fingerprint stains on photographs, these can be wiped off with a piece of flannel.
After having put in so much of an effort to make the scrapbook, you sure would like
to protect it. The best way would be to use paper, which is lignin free and acid free since this prevents paper
from turning yellow and crumbling. Page protectors can also be used to protect pages.
Technology has developed to such an extent that making copies of the different pages
of the scrapbook is no big deal. If you are making a scrapbook on recipes you can scan and copy any recipe any
number of times. You just have to add trimmings to theses copies after you have the print outs either on vellum or
paper.
It is difficult to visualize making a scrapbook without any newspaper clippings. It
gives the scrapbook a personal touch if you see a clipping of birth announcement from a newspaper or any private
details or achievement details of your hero are preserved in the scrapbook.
You need not worry about the longitivity of the paper as it contains about 4% lignin
so this will delay the commencement of the yellowness and brittleness setting in considerably. To make sure that
the quality of the paper is maintained you could even use Mylar paper and pages protectors to protect the paper
from external factors which could damage the paper.
Internet is a great boon to scrapbook makers. You can get any kind of graphic or
clip artwork done easily. The printing also costs nothing. Through the internet, you can download any details that
you need for your scrapbook.
Not only can you download printed material but also photographs. You cannot imagine
the joy you will give your child, when he sees his favorite actor or sportsperson photograph in the scrapbook. Care
must be taken to print these on lignin-free and acid-free paper.
Half the times we do not take care of the art things the children do in their school.
If these are photographed and saved, they could be used in the scrapbooks being made for the children or
grandparents. They could also be used the background or as the main theme for one page in the scrapbook.
